Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Margaret Cavendish: A Multidisciplinary Journal invites submission of original articles and reviews related to Margaret Cavendish and her contemporaries, including the Cavendish family and their intellectual circle. We welcome submissions from all academic disciplines.

Article submissions typically range between 7,000 and 10,000 words, including footnotes. The Works Cited is not included in the word count. Please include a 100-150-word abstract of your article. 

All article manuscripts should be double-spaced and should use US spelling. Please use MLA 9th edition.  Sample citations for books and book chapters can be found here: https://libguides.up.edu/mla/common/books_and_ebooks

Margaret Cavendish: A Multidisciplinary Journal practices double-blind review. Please ensure that your name does not appear anywhere in your article or review. If you need to cite your own work, please refer to yourself in the third person. All feedback will be mediated by the journal editors.

The journal is published online.

Guidelines for reviews of books, contemporary theatrical production of plays, and other multimedia projects such as films.

Reviews should summarize the main points of the book or project, the work’s strengths and weaknesses, and will also endeavor to be sympathetic while providing thoughtful and fair critical judgment.  Please remember that your readers will be coming from many different disciplines.

Reviews of monographs, editions, contemporary performances, and multimedia projects should be approximately 1,000 words while collections should be approximately 1,200 words.

General Format for Reviews:

Begin the review with a headnote that contains all the following information:

Margaret Cavendish: A Multidisciplinary Journal considers all manuscripts on the following  conditions:

  • The manuscript has not been published elsewhere.
  • The manuscript has been submitted only to this journal.
  • All listed authors know of and agree to the manuscript being submitted to the journal.
